Job Description
Our Client is a very established consultancy with a successful track record in performance in environmental field. As a leading European consultancy they deal with operations in 50 countries worldwide. Within the UK they employ over 500 technical staff in eleven offices. Due to continued expansion plans in their Waste Sector they require a Consulting Group Director to join their team in Oxford to contribute towards their growth.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting directly into the Regional Managing Director the CGD will be responsible for meeting the business plans, objectives and targets for the group and provide effective management on a day-to-day basis. This is a full management and leadership role with associated delivery responsibility. The role is multi-faceted and will be challenging from both a technical/consultancy level and a managerial/leadership level.
- The role will focus on consultancy disciplines in the areas of Waste and Resource Management, with the team currently working on a wide range of projects from market development, waste data management, strategy development and implementation. Specific responsibilities include:
- Motivate and provide active leadership to an existing consultancy team with a brief to manage the team resources, grow and develop the team and continue to enhance its profitability.
- Ensure that staff in the Group is managed correctly and that includes recruitment & performance management activities being undertaken in a timely and proactive manner.
- Provide support & guidance to managers at lower levels acting as a role model and mentor for them.
- Financial management – take responsibility for the delivery of the P&L.
- Technical consultancy – deliver around 40 to 50% fee productivity. As a senior and experienced member of the team you will act in a Project Director capacity on most projects.
- Client and Business Development Management – take a leadership role, ‘leading from the front’.
- Take mutual accountability for the performance of the region as a whole and to support and assist in initiatives to secure overall regional performance and profitability.
Experiences and skills:
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent) ideally with a professional qualification to Chartered status.
- Applicants are likely to come from a consultancy background however other relevant backgrounds will be considered. These include Local Authority or the Waste Management industry.
- Experience of line management including management and effective planning of resources.
- Experience of multi-disciplinary projects going beyond your core technical area(s).
- Experience of P&L management and an understanding of basic financial metrics.
- A track record of client management and some experience of managing business development.
- A good working knowledge of client terms and conditions of contract.
- Ability to inspire and influence others.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
