Job Description
Our client is one of the UK’s leading Private Planning Consultancies. They already have a strong reputation for the quality of their environmental work and they are now looking to rapidly develop this technical sector of the business.
We are looking for a Senior or Associate grade Sustainability Consultant with ambition and passion for the field. This is a unique opportunity to lead and develop your own team, our client has a track record of appointing key individuals and building strong teams around them.
You will be responsible for:
• Advising key clients on how to deliver the zero carbon agenda;
• Carrying out Sustainability Appraisals of projects;
• Managing and undertaking appraisals of the sustainable design and construction of buildings (for example using Code for Sustainable Homes, EcoHomes and BREEAM);
• Providing advice on a specific element of the overall sustainability discipline (for example renewable energy systems, climate modelling, carbon zero agenda or environmental technologies);
• Business Development, including establishing and maintaining good relationships with clients.
• Project Management – delivering sustainability projects, including bid preparation, client management, project management, technical review, financial control and post project review.
• Team Management/Recruitment – Assist in the nurturing of the existing team, providing training, and mentoring as appropriate. Recruitment of new team members as required.
Skills Required:
• Educated to degree level. Qualifications to MSc level on a relevant course would be an advantage.
• Ideally hold a degree in a relevant science, planning or engineering field.
• Excellent understanding of sustainability issues in the development and property sector
• Excellent understanding of UK planning policy and Sustainability policies/ emergent policy trends both at corporate and project level.
• Proven track record in delivering sustainability appraisals in support of planning applications, including undertaking or managing BREEAM, Code for Sustainable Homes and EcoHomes assessments.
• Considerable relevant experience of managing single and multi-disciplinary projects.
• Previous consultancy experience preferred however experience in related sectors will be considered (e.g. development industry or regulatory).
• Proven technical knowledge in one or more of the following specialisms: Sustainability policy (for national / local govt, Regional Assemblies, RDA`s etc), Renewable energy in the built environment, Energy efficiency, Water efficiency, Materials specification, Design team advice, Socio economic assessment, Sustainable business strategy and implementation, Training, Management System design, implementation, Sustainability benchmarking (Code for Sustainable Homes, BREEAM etc), Sustainability appraisal of projects and policy documents.
• Full Driving Licence
The salary offered will be dependant on experience and ability, but it will be a highly competitive package including excellent base salary, and wide ranging benefits including car, pension scheme etc.
