Job Description
Our client is a large environmental company whose strength is the diversity, variety and creativity of its people built up over 60 years in consultancy. Our client deals with a broad range of skills, which in turn has allowed them to build a comprehensive service portfolio and apply experience in a wide range of markets.
The Senior Consultant will manage projects across the company from strategic work for local authorities to providing waste management advice to waste management companies. This will involve providing project support and management in the areas of waste strategy, recycling, composting and general waste management. The workload includes DEFRA NISP work, DEFRA WasteDataFlow, WRAP Rotate Projects.
Key Duties:
• Offer and deliver technical solutions to meet the business and client expectations. Maintain and develop waste expertise and continue to increase technical breadth.
• Will manage projects including costs, performance and spend against budget, quality, deadlines, delivery of reports, presentations and other deliverables. Review the progress of the project on a regular basis and take responsibility for delivery to client needs.
• Resolve technical and financial queries through consultation with project managers and technical managers where appropriate.
• Responsible for client care as required on projects (under instruction from the project director and manager) including communication of progress, complex issues and any financial arrangements. Ensure projects delivered are meeting the client’s needs.
• Maintain senior level client contacts and negotiates and agrees commercial terms where appropriate, consulting with Project Managers on large scale projects.
• Support the Consulting Group Manager in the annual budgeting and planning process. Develop an awareness of customer business issues and identifies lead generation.
• Encourage and motivate the team by supporting the Consulting Group Manager at team meetings. Support the Consulting Group Manager by clearly communicating progress, employee performance targets and the necessary actions required.
Requirements:
• Educated to degree level (or equivalent or be able to demonstrate equivalent level of understanding) in a relevant discipline.
• Ideally hold membership of a professional institution however this is not essential.
• Relevant experience gained within either a consultancy or Local Authority.
• Knowledge should include waste strategy, waste management, recycling or composting.
• Proven report writing, data manipulation, numeracy and communications skills are essential.
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
• Sound project management as well as business development skills including client care.
• A flexible attitude, positive outlook and attention to detail are essential, along with an ability to work to tight deadlines.
• Current driving licence
